Do you ever feel overwhelmed knowing what you want to create in your home, but not knowing where to start? Do you feel like you’ll never actually accomplish your big vision?
If you read my last post, you know I spent last month just restoring a sense of order and calm for myself in the unexpected move we made to a unique, but needy home. I definitely felt overwhelmed; especially since we’ll be doing all of the remodeling while we live here- yikes!
This month, we're knee deep in big unglamorous projects, like replacing a roof and taking down trees. But I needed to feel more in control of our daily space, so started looking at small painting projects I can do that will have big impact.
I’ve already made room for a new closet space (more on that soon, but here's a peek!).
I have to say, I’m embracing white walls for the first time in my life and feeling really empowered by the palette cleanse and new opportunities this all brings to me! Small victories lead to more courage and bigger successes.
So it’s fitting that this month at the Kelly-Moore Color Studio we’re embracing the empowering spirit of KMW9 Mawmaw’s Pearls, a warm neutral tint in our Whites Collection that feels both clean and cozy. And the beauty of white is that it’s so versatile. Use it throughout your entire house, to feature a grand architectural detail, or just here and there to visually ‘tidy up’ a corner that’s been needing your attention. In its own way, white is a very bold choice and I find that exciting and empowering.
Here are a few small project ideas we've lined up for you that could look amazing with a clean dash of white. Each image links to a product page where you can shop for everything you need to make your next paint project a success!
For all the home office, reading nooks, and study spaces we’ve carved out in our homes this past year, a white background is a great option. just be sure to layer your space with objects and accents that help you feel focused and organized. Creating this space may involve painting a whole room, but it could just take a feature wall in your bedroom to help you visually separate the energy and activities of this space.
After years of pink, blue, and yellow rooms, we’re finally seeing white as a wonderful paint color that allows you to decorate in any color palette as your little one grows and expresses their personality and interests. A gorgeously soft off white, Swiss Coffee, allows for this versatility and is a consistent favorite from our essential Color Set.
Painting the walls and trim the same neutral keeps your eyes from wandering under cribs and rockers where chords and dust bunnies tend to congregate. Consider a pleasing color for the ceiling that you can update whenever you’d like or stick with white for a clean box to hold all the colorful books and boxes your little one will explore in the space.
White cabinets are classic! But consider looking at off-whites to bring warmth into your bathroom or kitchen. High contrasting backsplashes will define the space while lighter, softer colors will give the space an open feeling.
Nothing sets off a hallway like white walls with warm wood floors and beautiful doors. If near an entryway, the color will reflect the light beautifully from the front door area! Think of your hall as the busiest room in the house to make sure the color leads to every other room with ease and that decorations don’t crowd the space.
Creating clean defined spaces helps ground us, empower us, and move us forward - and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
