Design Hack: Paint your outlet plates

Everyone knows I'm a stickler for what you see behind and below your furniture.

That may seem a little picky, but camouflaging baseboards (notice I paint them to match the wall color!) and outlet plates can make the difference between junky looking spaces and beautiful design.

IMPORTANT: It's illegal to paint the outlets themselves, but you'll be amazed by how the outlets disappear when you paint the protective plates that go around them with your wall paint.

Here's a quick tutorial for how I paint outlet plates...

What you need:

• screwdriver
• dropcloth or piece of cardboard
• spraypaint primer
• small paint roller
• your wall paint

Here's how I do it:

1. Spray the plates with a light coat of primer- let dry
2. Roll a thin coat onto the plates, let dry and repeat
3. When completely dry, carefully put them back on the wall
